Pet of the Week

Pet of the Week: Tomato

Tomato, or as her foster family calls her, Pretty Princess Tomato Pie, is a stunning red coated pit bull that was pulled by Secondhand Hounds from a high kill shelter. As is seen in her pictures it looks like her ears are non-existent but in fact they at one point in her life were cropped before being rescued. Tomato had a very rough start in life and has overcome a few health challenges but with a lot of love and visits to the vet she has overcome and is ready for a new forever home.

Despite how poorly life has treated Tomato she absolutely loves to be with her foster parents and loves snuggling up beside them to let them know she will always be there for them. Tomato’s second favorite things in the world besides her foster family are peanut butter frozen bones and ripping stuffed animals apart. She is highly food motivated though she is grain-free, which is basically the dog version of being gluten free. Tomato is housebroken but is not crate trained. She does well without being in a crate and when home alone will often just hang out on the couch and protect her neighborhood, though she is not overly vocal. She loves car rides, baths, and even going to the vet. She is a very tolerant dog and even lets her foster family put clothes on her.

Tomato would do better in a home with older children that can be respectful toward her if any. She would be best as an only pet since she does not do well with other dogs or cats. She prefers to live in a chill household without a lot of activity. Tomato loves to go for walks and playing outside but is fairly new at being a family dog and will need someone that can be patient with her while she figures it all out.

The adoption fee for Tomato is set at $250 and she can be found on the Secondhand Hounds website under the adopt tab in dogs available for adoption. More information on the adoption process from Secondhand Hounds can be found under the adopt tab in how to adopt. Tomato is a beautiful and loving girl that can’t wait to find her forever home with someone who can help her become even more of the perfect dog.
