17-year-old Red Gerard takes home gold.

Yeah, 17. As in, seventeen. 17-year-old Red Gerard from Silverthorne, Colo. was awarded an Olympic gold medal in snowboarding Sunday.

Now, you’re probably asking, “Justin, why does this constitute an article for a high school newspaper?”

Well, number one, I’m the editor-in-chief of the Burnsville Voice, alongside Jake Beeson, because if I don’t mention his name he’ll yell at me, so I (and him) can put whatever we want on the school newspaper — as long as Millea is okay with it.

And, number two, this dude is seventeen years old. He was born on June 29, 2000.

The whole reason why I geeked out about this was because I was born on June 28, 2000 — the day before Red was born.

That’s Red. Okay, c’mon now, look at that flow. He’d totally pass for a hockey player around here.

But, he’s a snowboarder. My peers are out here winning gold medals, but, I mean, I can cook 90 second instant rice in 89 seconds. Is that cool?

Godspeed.

PS: Red, dude, if you’re reading this, I’m *so* down to be friends with you. My Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat are all @JustinAmaker. Hit me up, fam. I’ll teach you some hockey, with that sick flow of yours.
