The boys hockey team at Burnsville High School kicked off their season Tuesday with a bang. The game took place Nov. 28 and boy was it a close one!
The team is a young one this year, with ten sophomores making the team. Notable sophomores in this year’s team include Joey Anderson, Grant Ahcan, Tim Urlaub and Jordan Tompkins.
Tompkins returns to the ice this season after taking some time off from the sport. Anderson received lots of support from the Burnsville community Tuesday, being one of few sophomores making the varsity team on the first line as a sophomore. Ahcan has two brothers, Roman and Jack, who were both former Burnsville hockey players now playing for Division I colleges.
Urlaub scored his first varsity goal this game, something remarkable for a sophomore to get his first varsity goal on the first game. Senior captain Nick Willmert scored Burnsville’s second goal.
The boys played a good game, but at the end they lost. The final against Hill-Murray was 2-3. ¨We have a lot of young players in [sic] the team and it was many of their first games on varsity. We all had a lot of nerves in the first period but the rest of the game we played well. I am excited for this season, and I hope we will succeed in many of our games,¨ said a Burnsville hockey player in an interview.
The fans took over the crowd and hyped up the team as much as they possibly could.
